My art complicates language and forms. Through abstraction, sign systems, and liminality, the works ask viewers to question the familiar and confront the unfamiliar, especially in respect to affective publics. We think about signage as objective...a directive or informational statement, not emotional or subjective. There are no question marks in official public signage, such as "RIGHT TURN ONLY?" or "DEER CROSSING?" Employing humor, referential minimalism, and relational aesthetics, my concerns as an artist are to explore "how do we relate to each other — how do we share public spaces — how are we implicated —what does intimacy mean as we traverse this world of ours." Both Jenny Holzer and Barbara Kruger have been powerful influences in my art: their brave practices embolden mine.
