Stephanie Brooks is a conceptual artist, writer and curator living in Chicago. In her solo art exhibition TEMPORARILY CLOSE at The Common Well, Brooks contributed to the tradition of using language in a public context to ask, "How do we relate to each other? How do we share public spaces and how are we implicated by them? And what does intimacy mean as we traverse this world of ours?" Through language, sign systems and liminality, she asked viewers to question the familiar and confront the unfamiliar, especially in respect to affective publics. Brooks says in her work she’s aiming for “an inclusive use of text that contemplates humanity through humor, language and relational aesthetics.”
